Bali scooter rental companies worth checking
If you want a usable shortlist, compare operators on five published points: deposit or passport hold, whether the damage excess is a number, whether delivery is priced before you book, how the bike is prepared, and whether anyone will show a service log. If any of that is new to you, work through our preparation guide first. Below are five companies with public sites that travellers often look at in Canggu and Ubud. Facts are taken from those pages as checked on 3 October 2026—not from scores, secret lists or invented rankings.
How to compare without the marketing fog
| Criterion | What to ask or look for |
|---|---|
| Deposit / passport | Cash bond, card hold, or passport retained? Or pay only for the rental? |
| Excess published | Is the maximum you pay toward bike damage a stated figure, or “we’ll see”? |
| Delivery priced before book | Are delivery and collection itemised in the quote before you commit? |
| Bike prep | Stock hire bike, or workshop work listed (brakes, suspension, exhaust)? |
| Service log | Can they say when it was last serviced, and will they share a log? |
Use the table as a filter. A low day rate with a vague excess can still cost more than a clearer quote if something goes wrong.
Open Moto (Canggu)
Public site: openmoto.co
Open Moto presents itself as a Canggu-focused scooter rental with Honda and Yamaha models (including NMAX 155 ABS, XMAX 250 ABS, Vario 160 ABS, ADV 150 ABS and smaller options). The site highlights ABS, smart keys, clean helmets, raincoats, phone holders, free delivery and pickup in Berawa, Canggu and Pererenan, and 24/7 support.
Against the criteria (from the public site only):
- Deposit / passport: Not stated on the homepage checked 3 October 2026—ask in writing before you book.
- Excess published: Not stated on that page—ask for a capped figure in the agreement.
- Delivery priced before book: Free delivery and pickup are advertised for Berawa, Canggu and Pererenan; confirm other zones and whether both legs appear in a quote.
- Bike prep: Marketed as top-model bikes with ABS; no workshop modification list published on the page checked.
- Service log: Not mentioned on the homepage—worth asking for the last service date.
Open Moto is a reasonable Canggu shortlist candidate if you want ABS-equipped late-model scooters and local delivery in that strip. Fill in the deposit and excess gaps before you hand over money.
Bikago
Public site: bikago.com/bali (help centre: bikago.com/help-center)
Bikago is an online booking platform for Bali scooters (Vario 160, NMAX 155, ADV 160 and others). The Bali page advertises zero deposit on bookings, no passport retention, free delivery/collection on stays of three days or longer (with a surcharge option for shorter trips), helmet and phone holder, and bikes described as no more than three years old and serviced between rentals. Comprehensive insurance is an add-on; roadside assistance is described as included.
Against the criteria:
- Deposit / passport: Zero deposit and no passport retention are published for insured-style bookings; the help centre states that without their motorbike insurance a deposit of USD 750 can apply—so read the checkout carefully.
- Excess published: Damage liability is described as capped at a fixed excess defined at booking; the help centre cites an excess/own risk of USD 95 when their motorbike insurance is included.
- Delivery priced before book: Free delivery on 3+ day bookings is published; airport and short-hire fees are listed in the help centre—check the quote for your dates.
- Bike prep: Serviced between rentals; no workshop modification list on the Bali page.
- Service log: Servicing between rentals is claimed; a written service log is not highlighted—ask if you want one.
Bikago suits travellers who want an English online checkout and published no-passport language. Confirm whether insurance is in your quote and what excess applies that day.
Tropsa (Ubud)
Public site: tropsa.com
Tropsa is an Ubud scooter rental (Jl. Sriwedari, Taman Kaja) that also rents e-bikes. The site emphasises sanitised scooters and helmets, optional damage insurance, hotel/homestay delivery, and 24/7 WhatsApp assistance. Optional damage insurance is published at IDR 80,000/day for 110–125 cc scooters and IDR 100,000/day for 155–160 cc models. Scooter day rates themselves were not clearly listed as a static table on the homepage checked 3 October 2026—ask for a written price and what it includes.
Against the criteria:
- Deposit / passport: Not clearly published on the homepage—confirm before booking.
- Excess published: Optional insurance is priced; the residual excess (if any) after that cover is not spelled out on the page checked—ask for the maximum you could pay.
- Delivery priced before book: Delivery to hotel or homestay is offered; get the fee in writing in the quote.
- Bike prep: “Well-maintained” and sanitised; no modification list published.
- Service log: Not highlighted—ask for the last service date.
Tropsa is a practical Ubud option if you want a local WhatsApp-first shop and optional add-on damage cover. Get deposit, excess and delivery in one message before you commit.
Darma Putra (Ubud)
Public site: motorbikerentalbali.com/en
Darma Putra Rental Bali is a long-running Ubud operator (est. 1992 on their site) with motorbikes and cars. The English site advertises no security deposit on motorbike rental, island-wide delivery, helmets, and insurance listed against fleet models. Published scooter-style day rates on the page checked include, for example, Vario/Scoopy from around IDR 80,000/day and older NMAX from around IDR 120,000/day (model years listed on the site). A drop-off price list from Ubud to other areas is published (for example airport/Kuta/Seminyak/Canggu/Jimbaran at IDR 300,000 on that table).
Against the criteria:
- Deposit / passport: “No security deposit” is published for motorbike rental.
- Excess published: Insurance is mentioned; a capped excess amount was not found as a clear figure on the pages checked—ask what you would pay if the bike is damaged.
- Delivery priced before book: Drop-off prices from Ubud are published in a table; confirm both delivery and collection for your dates appear before you book.
- Bike prep: “Well maintained” and quality-checked language; no workshop modification list on the pages checked.
- Service log: Long-term monthly service is mentioned in customer review text on the site; ask for a dated service record for the unit you get.
Darma Putra can suit budget-conscious Ubud stays if the published no-deposit claim holds in your WhatsApp confirmation and the excess is written down.
Overrun Moto (Canggu & Ubud)
Public site: overrunmoto.com (and /faq)
Overrun Moto publishes a narrower set of scooters worked on in its own garage, with villa delivery across popular tourist areas and payment on delivery. On the homepage checked 3 October 2026: no upfront deposit, insurance included with a damage excess capped at IDR 500,000–1,000,000, and delivery/collection itemised in the quote (from IDR 150,000 a leg; free in Ubud). Published day rates the same day: NMAX 155 IDR 250,000; ADV 160 IDR 275,000; ADV 160 Adventure IDR 350,000; XMAX 250 IDR 450,000. NMAX and ADV Adventure units are listed with Arrow exhaust, RPD brakes and tuned suspension. Service every 2,000 km while the bike is out, with a service log available on request via WhatsApp.
Against the criteria:
- Deposit / passport: No cash or card deposit; pay the rental on delivery (cash or QRIS per FAQ).
- Excess published: IDR 500,000 for standard fleet (NMAX 155, ADV 160); IDR 1,000,000 for halo units (XMAX 250, X-ADV 750); theft excess IDR 1,000,000 on the FAQ.
- Delivery priced before book: Yes—two legs itemised in the quote before you commit.
- Bike prep: Own garage; modified NMAX and ADV Adventure listed as above.
- Service log: 2,000 km interval; log on request via WhatsApp.
If workshop-prepped bikes, a published excess and an itemised delivery quote matter more to you than the cheapest scooter on the street, Overrun Moto is worth opening alongside the others—not as the only option, but as one that already prints answers to the five questions above.
